James Clerk Maxwell

This mixed media collage celebrates the groundbreaking work of James Clerk Maxwell, whose unification of electricity and magnetism into a single theory of electromagnetism forever transformed science and technology. At the heart of the piece are Maxwell’s four elegant equations, which revealed that light is an electromagnetic wave traveling through space—an insight that laid the foundation for radio, radar, satellite communications, power grids, fiber optics, and even quantum physics.

Layered with historical imagery, handwritten notes, and vibrant graphics, the collage reflects the beauty and complexity of Maxwell’s vision, bridging abstract theory and real-world innovation. From modern computing to MRI machines and wireless technology, his discoveries remain central to daily life.

This artwork is part of the permanent collection of the James Clerk Maxwell Foundation in Edinburgh, Scotland, honoring one of the most influential minds in the history of science.
