Srinivasa Ramanujan
This mixed media collage honors Srinivasa Ramanujan, the self-taught Indian mathematician whose intuitive genius transformed pure mathematics. Born in Madras, India, in 1887, Ramanujan made extraordinary contributions to number theory, infinite series, continued fractions, and mock theta functions—all with little formal training.
His groundbreaking work with mathematician G.H. Hardy at Trinity College, Cambridge, led to the development of elegant infinite series formulas for π, insights into prime number distributions, and graphic representations of Farey sequences through Ford Circles.
His achievements earned him a Fellowship at both the Royal Society and Trinity College—making him one of the youngest recipients and the first Indian Fellow. Ramanujan’s life and legacy, depicted in the film The Man Who Knew Infinity, continue to inspire mathematicians and physicists alike; his formulas have found modern applications in areas as vast as black hole thermodynamics and string theory.
