Erwin Schrödinger
This mixed media collage honors Erwin Schrödinger, the Austrian physicist whose groundbreaking work reshaped our understanding of the quantum world. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, Schrödinger is best known for his famous wave equation—a cornerstone of quantum mechanics that allows scientists to calculate how quantum systems evolve over time.
His equation predicts the behavior of electrons in atoms, informs the design of semiconductors and transistors, and explains the wave-like nature of matter—contributions that continue to influence fields ranging from chemistry to computing.
The collage also references his iconic thought experiment, Schrödinger’s Cat, which challenges our perceptions of reality and introduces the mind-bending concept of quantum superposition: that particles can exist in multiple states at once until observed.
This piece captures the depth and complexity of Schrödinger’s legacy, blending science and symbolism to reflect a world where certainty dissolves into probability. This piece was featured on the website and included in the Art and Science exhibit at the 27th General Congress of the French Physical Society, 2025!
